The Idea: The Coach Performance Playbook

We’ve gotten to work inside college Athletic Departments with some of the most well-known coaches and programs in their relative sports. We got to work with national champions, conference champions, and HS State Champions. And we found lots of good ideas being thrown at coaches and ADs. What they lacked were systems.

They lacked actual tools to be able to take the ideas and put them into action within their program. Whether it was in their coaching, within the culture of their program, or in the leadership of their staff, coaches were skirting by with the latest idea they read on Twitter, in a book, or from a clip they saw of another coach.

If their Athletic Department is deeply committed to them, they invest in bringing in people like us to provide direct support and help. We get to be an objective voice. We offer recommendations, run workshops, work with players, and train coaches to become better leaders and build thriving cultures. But, even we were dismayed by the lack of systems coaches had to do this when we couldn’t be there all the time.

So, when we saw a hole, we built a system. We collaborated with the coaches we worked with. We gave it to them, let them test it out, iterated on it, and made it better. And we kept building. We stepped back and realized we had a robust offering that could transform a coach, their leadership, and their program from the inside out. So, we immediately got to work trying to figure out how to give it to every high school and college coach in the country.

So we put it all into something we are calling the Coach Performance Playbook.

It is tailored specifically to empower coaches in optimizing their leadership skills, not only for themselves but for their staff and team.
