ICYMI

We hosted a live webinar for coaches and ADs inside our BETTER Community on Mindset — why it’s important, how we’d teach it to your team, what you need to do about it as a leader, and how to build it into your team.

Here’s what one of our community members, a coach in the SEC, had to say about it.

We created a free trial for our community, with no strings attached, so anyone from our newsletter could watch it on replay.

Check the email we sent last week for details, or email us to get them.

🔑 The Idea: You Have a Superpower Inside You

Your potential is like an untapped superpower. It’s all the impact you’re capable of making, all the success you could achieve—but haven’t quite unlocked yet.

One of the biggest barriers to unlocking that potential? Limiting Beliefs.

These are the stories we tell ourselves about what we can or can’t do. They create artificial ceilings that limit our growth, confidence, and ability to perform at our best.

Athletes battle these all the time:
👉 “I don’t belong here.”
👉 “I’m not talented enough.”
👉 “I don’t have what it takes.”

Coaches and leaders face them too:
👉 “I’m not making an impact.”
👉 “I don’t have enough experience.”
👉 “I can’t compete with other programs.”

Here’s the thing: These beliefs aren’t true. They’re just thoughts. And thoughts can be rewritten.

🧠 A Mindset Shift: Name it, Capture it, Flip it.

In giving talks on Mindset to teams, we’ve created a framework for dealing with Limiting Beliefs. It’s simple but powerful: Name it. Capture it. Flip it.

1. Name It

Say it out loud. Admit to yourself what belief is holding you back. When you name a limiting belief, your brain is able to be more objective about it. Even writing it down on a post-it or a note so it can read it helps “create space” between you and that belief. You’re more likely to see it for what it is: a thought—not reality.

2. Capture It

Ask yourself:

  • Where is this belief coming from?

  • What past experience made me feel this way?

  • Is there actual evidence that this belief is true?

3. Flip It

Most limiting beliefs have a truth on the other side of them. Reframe it:

  • Limiting Belief: “I don’t belong here.”

  • Flipped Truth: “I earned my way here. I’ve put in the work.”

  • Limiting Belief: “I can’t handle this pressure.”

  • Flipped Truth: “I’ve faced challenges before, and I’ve grown from them.”

When you capture and flip a limiting belief, it no longer controls you. Instead, it fuels your growth.

We like to say that there is a thin line between your superpower and your kryptonite. It often looks like the above. Something that is holding you back, viewed correctly, actually becomes something that unlocks your potential.

🔨 Putting It Into Action: What’s Holding You Back?

Now, let’s turn this inward. What limiting belief are you carrying as a coach, leader, or athlete?

Take a moment today to:
✅ Write down one limiting belief you’ve been holding onto.
✅ Ask yourself where it comes from and whether it’s actually true.
✅ Flip it into a truth that empowers you.

Your potential is already inside you. The only thing standing in the way? The beliefs you choose to hold onto.

💬 Closing Thought

The best athletes and leaders don’t let limiting beliefs dictate their future. They confront them, reframe them, and move forward with confidence.

What’s the truth you need to start believing today? 🚀

We’d love nothing more than if you’d be willing to share your limiting belief and how you reframed it with us if you’d be willing to. We realize this takes a lot of vulnerability. No pressure at all.

But, we get to sit with numerous coaches and leaders and do this over coffee or a meal and you can see the weight lift off their shoulders. We want to offer that to you as well. Sometimes, sharing this is the thing that helps reframe the belief.

Let’s get better, together.

BETTER’s Solution to Coach Development

As a part of our work, we lead cohorts of leaders. It’s just one meeting a month with a topic, some homework, and sharing about how it’s going. But it’s powerful. Many of the coaches and leaders in our cohort express the following sentiment:

“I wish every coach got to experience this on some level.”

So, we thought, why can’t they?

As a part of what’s next for BETTER.

We are launching a community around the Culture Playbook.

Until now, the Culture Playbook has been something you buy and then get. We wanted it to be so good and affordable that every coach in the country could access it.

From now on, leaders will receive the Culture Playbook as part of a guided community led by Kevin and Seth.

If you’ve enjoyed our newsletter, imagine a community where we will take you and others through a deeper level of how to install the systems for yourself, athletes, or other coaches. You can ask us questions directly. We can guide and share discussions, share ideas, and get feedback.

We will host monthly calls, and every coach will have direct access to us. We will lead guided discussions and encourage coaches and ADs to share best practices. We want it to become the absolute best resource for all things Culture Development, both at the program and department levels. Over time, we will continue to add content, resources, and offerings. You’ll get discounts on future products that the public won’t get. And no, the price is not changing.

We’re targeting a public launch in early January, offering newsletter readers early access and a 25% discount. Fill out the form using the link below, and we’ll send you a link to get started.
